Crossing to Isla Cedros

Isla Cedros (28 09 89N 115 09 32W)

Environmental conditions: Air and water temp almost perfect; could have been a tad bit warmer. Still enjoyed the water play!

Fridge temp: Perfect

Battery state: 13.2V (i.e., perfect)

After a restless night due to anchor checks and lots of boat noises, we departed Punta Baja at ~1000 for our 24+hr sail/motor-sail to Isla Cedros. We opted to go out and around Isla San Geronimo and Arrecife Sacramento, just to be safe. And this is how the next 26 hours went: motor-sail; sail with drifter; motor-sail; sail with genny; motor-sail; sail with genny; motor-sail.

Again, we had a spectacular sunset, Rand made a bonito caesar salad for dinner underway, the sailing (when we were actually sailing) was quiet and wonderful, and there was zero boat traffic. Pretty darn perfect. The Advance Team arrived first and scoped out the anchorage, which was deep, the water was clear blue,  warmish, and teeming with fishes.

The weather was calm and the sun was hot, so we took the GoPro for a swim. We’ll have to practice a bit more to become video experts — especially the editing part, but we’re looking very forward to learning; so excited about that little device (Spencer? Any helpful hints?)! Then, about 2100, the wind piped up and lo and behold, we had to re-anchor to give SNL some space. Dammit. Didn’t we learn this lesson in Catalina in White Cove? Apparently not — even though we had that gut feeling of, “hmmmm…we seem a bit close,” when we dropped the hook that morning. But the bottom line? It was an awesome day, complete with fish tacos ala Capt. Fishguts and the bonito.

Late last night I realized how good your timing is. Jealous of you being out of the US.

    Love living vicariously through you.
