Here We Go — Oside or Bust!

Location and Moorage: Oceanside (33 12 197N 117 24 390W); one night dockside

We struck out from San Diego after dawn on a Sunday and sailed/motor sailed as far as — can you believe it — Oceanside. Attire consisted of beanies, jackets, and deck socks; covering up with a blankey was a bonus. We snuggled into a guest dock as far from the howling sea lions that we could and shuffled off to meet some friends (Pete, Lisa, and Tom) for the Warriors Cavs Game 4.

After the game Pete and Lisa had us follow them to their car and Lisa presented Jody with a beautiful classical Goya guitar that she hadn’t had out of the case for over a year; it had a shredded string; it was woefully out of tune, but it was perfect. It was the perfect gift for a soon-to-be forever cruiser. Jody is diligently tuning and practicing chords everyday. Soon to be a YouTube phenom…just wait. Thank you, thank you, Lisa!

When we arrived back at the docks, Lancey-pants and his lovely wife, Linda, had pulled in beside us aboard their beautiful Mahe 36, Ocean Spirit. The following morning, Rand went for a dabble in the surf while Linda and Jody took a stroll along the beach. Upon our return to the boats, Lance made us a cup of his delectable “mud” (aka super dark, strong coffee) and Rand fixed us up with a more-than-ample breakfast of veggie eggs, potatoes, and veggie sausage. A perfect way to begin the next leg of the Shakedown — and off to Dana Point we went!

Oside — what did we learn about ourselves and/or observations: Dolphins! We are more willing to beat our way to a destination to enjoy the sailing vs. motoring all the way (mind you, we did motor-sail about halfway due to a lack of breeze). Also, Oside is coming into its own, with lots of new restaurants and breweries to enjoy!
